The best of the best among experts school geography from all over Russia had the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice and exchange experiences on the Black Sea coast. In the legendary “Eaglet” the so-called “GeoChange” sums up the results. Her students easily cope with tasks that make most adults' heads spin.

The task is not easy - first you need, like a real meteorologist, to determine what the weather conditions are in Central Russia today.

“The task is to collect indicators from meteorological instruments that are located in our complex weather station, for example, 760 millimeters pressure, temperature, humidity, radiation level,” explained the head educational program meteorology and geomorphology Galina Radko.

For 21 days, schoolchildren from all over the country not only relaxed at sea, but also studied under the conditions of a specialized shift of the Russian Geographical Society in Orlyonok. The competition is growing every year - this time 700 of the best geography experts competed for 100 places.

“The most important thing that children receive here is a conscious, very careful attitude towards the environment. They learn to be ecologists, people who will leave their planet to their future children and grandchildren,” said Alexander Dzheus, director of the All-Russian Children’s Center “Orlyonok”.

They know exactly how to teach children to love and appreciate the nature of Russia. The territory of the camp is three hundred hectares - larger than some European countries. All around there is a nature reserve, rare plants and a special layer of soil. The Russian Geographical Society also conducts specialized sessions “World of Discovery” in Vladivostok and Crimea, but only in “Orlyonok”, thanks to the unique conditions, the most interesting and at the same time difficult practical tasks.

Determine azimuth, angle and distance. Schoolchildren easily operate devices professional specialists. And in a matter of seconds they can set up a tent.

The profile shifts of the Russian Geographical Society have been taking place for the fourth year. At Orlenok, those who passed the competition and got here for free are given lectures by candidates and doctors of science, travelers and photographers.

“We introduce them not only to geographic equipment, but also bring to them a lot of diverse specialists, and the guys are sometimes surprised and say - is this also geography? Because there are a lot of professions related to geography, from tourism to construction, geology, archeology, speleology - this is all geography too,” noted Elena Lubashevskaya, coordinator of the specialized shift of the Russian Geographical Society “World of Discovery”.

The final stage of the quest - on a large map of Russia, the winners must stand on the regions from which they came, then a group photo, and then the guys write a letter to the participants of the next profile shift of the Russian Geographical Society.

“In our address, we wished the Oceanites not to strive for individual awards, because spiritual values are much more important for a person than material ones,” emphasized Fyodor Bondarenko, a shift participant.

But as the schoolchildren themselves admit, the main thing is new friends. Based on the shift participants, you can study the geography of Russia. And no matter which team wins, in the evening everyone gathers around the fire, sings songs and makes wishes.
