The main goal of the festival was to create a platform for self-expression and realization of youth from 14 to 35 years old in the field of geography, tourism and local history through a number of creative competitions: for the best geography class “Discovery”, photo competition “The World through the Eyes of a Geographer”, video competition “World in Motion”, competition of weekend hiking routes “Walks in the Urals”, essay competition “Geographical Kaleidoscope”, competition for the best research work and the best report within the framework of the interregional youth scientific and practical conference “Research of natural and socio-economic systems and problems of natural science education” and a geographical dictation “In the country of the Riphean Mountains”.

Having opened, the festival welcomed the participants of the first competition - for the best geographical class “Discovery”. This year, 10 classes in two age categories reached the finals of the competition: grades 5-7 and grades 8-11. The winners in the age category of grades 5-7 were students from grade 7 “B” of MAOU Secondary School No. 28 in Pervouralsk. Among grades 8-11, two teams became the best – 10 “A” of MAOU Gymnasium No. 40 and 11 “A” MAOU gymnasium No. 94.
The highlight of the competition were the 2nd grade students who performed outside the competition and charmed the entire audience and the jury. It was also unexpected and pleasant to see the participation in the competition of 11th grade students from Minsk (Republic of Belarus), who showed good results in the correspondence round and qualified for the full-time round, but, unfortunately, were unable to attend.

The day began with a plenary session of scientific and practical conference "Research of natural and socio-economic systems". Presentations were made by primary and secondary school students who told how to use the game Minecraft when studying subjects school curriculum, revealed the secret of the location of the Sinyushkino well and explained why the color of the sparrows of the city of Yekaterinburg changes. Alexander Savichev, a member of the youth department of the SO RGS, shared his experience of effectively using the results of his many years of research on the architecture and history of the city of Sysert in the field of tourism and local history activities.

The most ambitious competition of the festival was the “ If I were the school director..." whose participants presented their projects innovative school future. The project of 4th year GBF student Elena Vasilyeva was recognized as the best.

In the essay competition " Geographical kaleidoscope" there was a fierce struggle for victory. Judges - representatives of the press, poets, writers, travelers evaluated creative works schoolchildren and students. Despite different approaches to the selection of winners, the winner was determined unanimously - it was a student of the Sverdlovsk Music College named after. P.I. Tchaikovsky Ekaterina Yantser with the work “Notes of a NOT Geographer”.

Competition of weekend hiking routes “Walks in the Urals” brought a lot of surprises to everyone. A special feature was again the participation of second-graders who defended their projects - developed virtual routes around Irbit on a motorcycle in time, along physical and geographical objects that reflect the “palette of colors” on the map of the Urals, and their own journey with a toponymic dictionary.

Senior participants of the competition presented the developed walking and water routes. A competent jury of representatives of the tourism industry of the Urals, the Ministry of General and Professional Education of the Sverdlovsk Region, the Regional Foundation for Civil Defense and Public Safety chose the route of the State Fund student Anastasia Stolbova “To the Art Gallery of Ancestors” as the best.

Day three began with a mass event - passed geographical dictation “In the country of the Riphean Mountains”. More than 200 people pre-registered, but there were many more people willing to take part in the dictation. This time we tested our knowledge of the geography of the Urals and the Sverdlovsk region.

Then the final video screening began competition "World on the Move". 15 works took part in 2 age groups: 14-17 years old and 18-30 years old. A strict jury of representatives of the film school at the Sverdlovsk Film Studio evaluated the works and identified the winners. Throughout the festival, audience voting took place for the works participating in the photo competition “The World through the Eyes of a Geographer”, where everyone could vote for their favorite photo in 5 categories in 2 age groups (14-17 and 18-30).

In the 14-17 year old group, the winners were Anton Sinitsyn, Anna Reznichenko, Anna Stepanova, Demyan Zaitsev, Daria Bakhareva. In the age category of 18-30 years old, Sergey Golovanov, Valeria Maltseva, Artem Petrov, Daniil Babenkov, Andrey Tonkushin won.

Before the closing ceremony of the festival, participants were treated to master classes: from the Film School of the Sverdlovsk Film Studio, Vadim Osipov’s Photo Workshop, “Key Moment” from the Vershina tourist club, “Be Prepared!” from the Sverdlovsk Regional Fund civil protection and fire safety, Art Deco appliances – from student council GBF.

Here are two records of the current festival:

1. The most active team of the festival is gymnasium No. 205 “Theater”, Yekaterinburg (participated in all competitions).
2. Largest group of participants geographical dictation“In the country of the Riphean Mountains” - Yekaterinburg College of Economics and Technology, 80 people

The Great Geographic Festival “My Earth 2016” has come to an end! At the closing ceremony, in a solemn atmosphere, the results were summed up, the winners of the competitions were announced, and awarded diplomas and memorable gifts from the partners of the Festival. The work was productive. Everyone who took part got the opportunity to self-realize and implement their plans, found new friends and partners in new interesting projects. We are finishing our work, but we are not saying goodbye for long, as we are starting to prepare the Great Geographical Festival “My Earth – 2017”.
