In honor of the 72nd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Regional Public Organization “Diaspora of Representatives of the Pamir Peoples - “Pamir” took part in a number of solemn and mourning events.

On May 8, 2017, representatives of our diaspora together with the Coordination Council of the Tajik Diaspora in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region led by Chairman Berdov Bakhtibek took part in the wreath and flower laying ceremony at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery.

Laying flowers on the eve of Victory Day celebrations has become traditional for the diaspora, since it is everyone’s duty to remember those who fought, worked, lived and died in besieged Leningrad in order to get closer to the Great Victory.

More than half a million Red Army soldiers and citizens who died during bombing, artillery shelling and starvation in besieged Leningrad are buried at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery.

For the third year in a row, representatives of the Regional Public Organization “Diaspora of Representatives of the Pamir Peoples - “Pamir”, together with the Coordination Council of the Tajik Diaspora in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, come to the city of Lyuban, Leningrad Region, to honor the memory of our compatriot, hero Soviet Union, Tuychi Erdzhigitova.

It was in the city of Lyuban, on May 9, 2015, that our diaspora with the Coordination Council of the Tajik Diaspora of the city St. Petersburg and the administration of the city of Lyuban erected a bust of the Hero of the Soviet Union - Tuychi Erdzhigitov. Tuichi died in the city of Lyuban on October 5, 1943, covering the embrasure with his body fascist invaders, thereby giving their fellow soldiers the opportunity to attack.

WITH early morning representatives of public organizations went to the “Alley of Heroes” cemetery, where they paid tribute to the memory of more than 14 thousand war heroes, including Tuychi Erdzhigitov.

After honoring the memory and laying flowers, the event continued with a vibrant concert by artists. Upon completion, all participants and veterans were treated to delicious pilaf.

On the same day, activists of the Regional Public Organization “Diaspora of Representatives of the Pamir Peoples - “Pamir”” took part in the festive procession “Immortal Regiment”.

Before the start of the promotion main street A convoy of vintage wartime cars drove through the city. They carried participants of the Great Patriotic War, siege survivors, veterans of the front and rear.

Following them, a column of action participants began to move, where our activists, accompanied by wartime songs, carried portraits of their grandfathers who died at the fronts or returned home with victory, but did not live to see its 72nd anniversary.

The procession ended on Palace Square, where a large festive concert soon began. And at 22.00 from the walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress, all those gathered watched the festive fireworks.

According to the organizers, about half a million people took part in the “Immortal Regiment” campaign this year. Today, about one and a half thousand participants of the Great Patriotic War live in St. Petersburg.

On May 9, 2019, St. Petersburg will host the celebration of the 74th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Celebrations in honor of Victory Day begin from the first days of May, and on May 9 the most important events take place.

The history of the Victory Day on May 9

In the last months of the war, the German occupiers resisted desperately. In January 1945, the East Prussian operation began and Allied troops also moved towards Berlin. April 16th began Berlin operation. The city was defended by 62 divisions and about a million German soldiers and officers, 1,500 tanks, more than 10,000 guns and 3,300 aircraft. The fighting was bloody and fierce. Hitler's suicide on April 30, 1945 symbolized the end of the war.

On May 1, Berlin was taken over the Reichstag building by Lieutenant Alexei Berest, sergeants Mikhail Egorov and Meliton Kantaria. Assault flag 150 was hoisted rifle division. On the evening of May 8, at 22:43 Central European time (0:43 Moscow time), the act of unconditional and complete surrender of Germany was signed. On behalf of the Wehrmacht, the act was signed by the Chief of Staff of the Supreme High Command, Field Marshal General W. Keitel, on behalf of the Allies - by British Air Marshal A. Tedder, and on behalf of the Red Army - by Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Marshal of the USSR Georgy Zhukov. Residents of Europe celebrate Victory in Europe day - Victory Day in Europe on May 8th. Residents of our country celebrate the holiday of the country's liberation from fascist occupiers - May 9. The decree on celebrating the holiday was signed by Stalin and on May 9 at 6 am, residents of the country heard Levitan’s voice and a message about the Victory on the radio. In 1945, 1000 guns announced the victory of our people with 30 artillery salvos.

But even after the signing of the act of surrender, fighting in Berlin continued. This was explained by 2 reasons - the lack of communication and information about the end of the war, as well as the fact that many German soldiers and the officers did not want to end the war in captivity. This led to additional losses on both sides. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers died in battles in Germany and Berlin.

From 1948 to 1965, May 9 was a working day, and only from 1965 under L. Brezhnev it became a non-working day. Now in most former Soviet republics it is also a day off.

Leningrad blockade

According to Hitler's plan, Leningrad was to be wiped off the face of the earth, and its inhabitants destroyed. After unsuccessful attempts to take the city, the Nazis decided to use aviation and artillery to raze the city to the ground and strangle it. On September 8, 1941, the siege of Leningrad began. The only connection with the world was the path along Lake Ladoga - the Road of Life.

Hunger was rampant in the city; there was not enough water. Hungry residents helped the front. Factories produced weapons and ammunition, and Universal Training centers trained soldiers for the front. People swelled and died from hunger and cold. Bread was given out on ration cards. 400 thousand people starved of children alone. According to various sources, from 300 thousand to 1.5 million people died during the blockade, 97% of them from hunger. Main burials of residents besieged Leningrad- at Piskarevsky and Serafimovsky cemeteries.

On January 18, 1943, during the offensive on the Volkhov and Leningrad fronts, the 872-day blockade of Leningrad was broken, and on January 27, it was completely lifted. For the heroism and courage shown during the siege, the city was awarded the title of hero city.

Veterans who defended the city and survivors of the siege, who now live in different parts of our Motherland and beyond, come to St. Petersburg every year to celebrate Victory Day. On holidays, front-line soldiers meet and participate in festive events.

Flowers are laid at the Piskarevsky Memorial and Serafimovsky cemeteries, on Victory Square and in the burial places of soldiers and residents of besieged Leningrad. We are proud of their courage and resilience.

On May 9, St. Petersburg will solemnly celebrate the 72nd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The parade will be attended by 96 pieces of equipment, 4,103 military personnel, 40 pieces of aviation and up to ten ships.

This year, aviation will take part in the Victory Parade in St. Petersburg for the first time. Mi-8, Mi-26, Mi-35, Mi-28N, Ka-52 helicopters, Su-27, MiG-29SMT, MiG-31BM, Su-35, Su-34, transport helicopters will fly over Palace Square in combat formation An-12, An-26 and Tu-134 aircraft - more than 40 units. In 2015, we recall that during the celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory, tanks marched through the Northern capital for the first time.

For three days in May, the symbol of the great victory will circle over the Northern capital, recalling the feat of our fathers and grandfathers. If on May 7 an airplane with a large 20-meter St. George ribbon makes a small circle, flying from Gostilitsa airport to the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg park, then on May 8 the circle will become larger, and on May 9 St. George's ribbon can be seen in the sky in almost all areas of the Northern capital. A light aircraft will fly at an altitude of 200 to 500 meters. Aviation clubs “PiterPolet” and “Nevsky Aeroclub” give such a gift to city residents.

The main events dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will traditionally be held on May 8 and 9, 2017.

  • from 11:00 to 12:00 - official funeral ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery, Serafimovskoye Cemetery; Smolensk Memorial Cemetery; Nevsky Memorial Cemetery "Cranes", on Victory Square and at Arc de Triomphe Victory in Krasnoye Selo. At the Bogoslovskoe Cemetery, the ceremony will begin at 12:15.
  • 15:00 - festive concert at the Oktyabrsky Concert Hall
  • from 10:00 to 11:00 - military parade on Palace Square.
  • 14:30 - ceremonial passage of Great Patriotic War veterans in vintage cars along Nevsky Prospekt from Vosstaniya Square to Palace Square.
